Caltrans Fencing Improvement Project (CFIP)

The Caltrans Fencing Improvement Project (CFIP) was delivered in partnership with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to enhance safety and security along key sections of transportation infrastructure in Orange County.

This large-scale civil improvement initiative involved extensive fencing and site upgrades to protect public access areas, improve right-of-way security, and enhance long-term structural integrity within Caltrans’ jurisdiction.

Scope of Work

NexGen managed the demolition and replacement of more than 1,500 yards of upgraded Securi4D fencing and gates, designed for superior durability and performance.

The project also encompassed:

  • Slope paving and rock slope protection to stabilize and protect embankments.
  • Aggregate base road improvements for maintenance and access routes.
  • Landscaping and site restoration to meet Caltrans aesthetic and environmental standards.
  • Work performed entirely within Caltrans rights-of-way, from Beach Boulevard to Wintersburg Channel in Orange County.

Project Value: $2 Million

Challenges

Working within active transportation corridors presented unique logistical and safety challenges. NexGen needed to ensure that all work met Caltrans safety protocols while maintaining minimal impact on traffic flow and public accessibility.

Additionally, coordinating access across multiple right-of-way zones required precise scheduling, compliance documentation, and safety supervision.

━ Solutions

To address these challenges, NexGen implemented a comprehensive field management strategy focused on compliance, communication, and control.

Key actions included:

This structured approach enabled the project to proceed smoothly while adhering to Caltrans’ rigorous standards for construction and environmental stewardship.
